The Independence Day of India

INDEPENDENCE DAY

72 years ago to the day, India was declared an independent state by the British Empire. As a holiday and one of the country's three main holidays, Jollies Magazine has decided to show you the commemoration of this special day.
It all began.

Happy independence day 2018

It is after 174 years of colonization (since 1773), that England recognizes the independence of India, on August 15, 1947. To obtain this independence, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, true spiritual guide of India, puts in place many non-violent demonstrations. He leads campaigns of civil disobedience, defends social rights and organizes the "  March of Salt" ". This march, significant in Indian history, takes place in 1930. To protest against the salt tax introduced by the English, Gandhi, as well as the population revolt by harvesting salt themselves, which was formally forbidden to them. This march is a real struggle, not only against the English monopoly over the distribution of salt but also against their domination. It was in 1942 that the Mahatma created the Quit India movement ( Bharat Chodo in Hindi - Leave India in French), which calls for an immediate independence of the country.

After the Second World War, Gandhi managed to obtain independence from India. But it was not until January 26, 1950, that India was officially proclaimed the Indian Republic. However, the British culture remains, still today, very present in India.

Patriotism and nationalism, the keywords of this 70th anniversary
The program of these celebrations this year is AZADI70 (note: AZADI means freedom). This commemoration, which contains various activities and festivities organized in all the states of the country, lasts all the week. Of course, all the ministers of the Indian People's Party and the legislators will be present. In a country where getting rid of the British hold is a real pride for Indian citizens, the keywords of this celebration are "patriotism" and "nationalism".

Happy independence day 2018

The program AZADI70 organizes many shows, including the borders of countries like China with Arunachal Pradesh, an Indian state claimed by China or Rajasthan, a state close to Pakistan. A list of celebrities, (singers, actors or athletes) has been developed for these celebrations. A novelty in the commemoration of Independence Day is the "  Tiranga Yatra  " which means the rally of the national flag. The tri-colored saffron, white and green bands will thus tour the country in different routes and locations during this week of festivities.

President Pranab Mukherjee's " Address to the Nation  " speech was delivered last night (Sunday, August 14). The President strongly condemns the actions of those who attempt to divide the Indian people and eliminate all forms of democracy. He also expresses his confidence in the Indian government and society. Regarding the development of his country, Pranab Mukherjee proclaimed that "  India will grow, only when each of us grows up. "

As for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he delivered his speech at the Red Fort in New Delhi this morning (Monday, August 15) after the flag was deployed. His speech was, without a doubt, one of the most important and most anticipated of the year. He recalled that "  a nation that is divided by castes and religions cannot accomplish much  ". His speech was not only about the politics of the country but also about his intentions. Narendra Modi believes that if every citizen goes beyond the hurts of society, India will become a robust and prosperous country. Since last year, Narendra Modi invites citizens to contribute to the writing of his speech, taking into account their ideas, their suggestions and their own visions of things. A great initiative to involve the Indian people in government policy.

On the side of schools, all primary schools must organize at least one activity, while high school students will have to take two activities from those on a list. Each year, a series of events are proposed during the week of celebration. Between national songs, greeting card for young soldiers on the borders of the country, tree planting and games on the theme of freedom, the activities are relatively numerous.

The symbols of Independence are important: kites spread in the sky and symbolize the free spirit of India. The Red Fort, meanwhile, is another symbol of Independence, it is August 15, 1945 that is unveiled for the first time the flag of the country. The navy blue wheel drawn in the center of the Indian flag in the white band, symbolizes the Chakra. The term "chakra" comes from an Indian emperor named Ashoka Chakra who represented the truth.
